Privacy Policy for Beacon
1. Who We Are
Beacon ("Beacon," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by Rohit Tyagi. This Privacy Policy applies to the Beacon mobile application, any related websites or support pages you operate for Beacon, and related services.
2. Scope
This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use Beacon.
Beacon does not currently require a traditional username-and-password account. Instead, the app creates a device-linked guest profile so it can remember your preferences, scouts, and generated briefs.
3. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
A. Information You Provide
- Topics, scout titles, search instructions, and other text you enter into the app
- Preferences you choose, such as brief cadence and reading style
- Support messages or other information you send to us if you contact us
B. Guest Account and Device Information
- A generated guest identifier
- A generated installation identifier
- Device and app information such as device name, device model, operating system name and version, app version, and app ownership state
- Your time zone
C. Notification Information
- Your notification permission status
- If you enable notifications, a push notification token and related delivery metadata
D. App Content and Usage Information
- Scouts you create
- Briefs generated for you
- Saved briefs and related timestamps
- Notification interaction events, such as whether a notification was sent, opened, or dismissed
E. AI and Service Provider Processing
To provide Beacon's core features, some user content may be processed by service providers that help us host the app, deliver notifications, generate AI-assisted briefs, and monitor system performance. Depending on our production configuration, this may include infrastructure, notification, observability, and AI model or gateway providers.
This processing may include:
- Your scout instructions and topic selections
- Related prompts or structured inputs needed to generate briefs
- Generated outputs such as summaries, headlines, and brief content
4. How We Use Information
We use information we collect to:
- Create and maintain your guest profile
- Save your preferences and restore your app state across sessions
- Generate and deliver briefs based on the topics you choose
- Send push notifications if you enable them
- Improve reliability, security, and performance
- Troubleshoot bugs, investigate abuse, and prevent misuse
- Respond to support requests
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms
5. How We Share Information
We may share information in the following circumstances:
A. Service Providers
We share information with vendors and service providers that help us operate Beacon, such as providers for hosting, databases, push notifications, analytics/observability, customer support, and AI-powered processing.
B. Legal and Safety Reasons
We may disclose information if we believe it is reasonably necessary to:
- Comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or government request
- Protect the rights, property, and safety of Beacon, our users, or others
- Detect, prevent, or address fraud, abuse, security, or technical issues
C. Business Transfers
If Beacon is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.
6. What We Do Not Do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use your data for third-party advertising.
- We do not use your data for cross-app tracking.
7. Notifications
Notifications are optional. If you allow them, Beacon may send you alerts when new briefs are ready or when relevant app events occur. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
8. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to:
- Provide Beacon's services
- Maintain security and integrity
- Meet legal, accounting, or compliance obligations
- Resolve disputes and enforce our agreements
If you delete your account in the app, we will delete or de-identify the data associated with that guest account from our active systems within 30 days, except where we must retain certain information for legal, security, fraud-prevention, backup, or compliance reasons.
9. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your information.
You can also:
- Disable notifications in your device settings

- Delete your account from within the app

10. Account Deletion
Beacon supports in-app account deletion.
You can request deletion by going to:
Profile -> Delete My Account
When you delete your account, we will remove the guest account data associated with that profile from our active systems, including your scouts, preferences, generated briefs, saved items, and device registration data, subject to the retention limitations described above.
11. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. International Data Transfers
Beacon and our service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required by law, we take appropriate steps to protect information transferred across borders.
13. Children's Privacy
Beacon is not directed to children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age in the relevant jurisdiction, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Beacon, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
14. Third-Party Links
Beacon may include links to third-party websites or publishers. If you open a third-party link, your interactions with that third party are governed by that third party's own privacy policy and terms, not this Privacy Policy.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where required, provide additional notice.
